Chips, Snacks, Sweets

'baked not fried' or 'cooked in vegetable oil' or 'light' or 'low cholesterol' products can still be very high in fat & salt!
e.g. NIK NAX 'baked not fried' wheat snack is high in fat

Avoid snack products containing animal fat

Avoid snack products containing vegetable fats and shortening such as some commercial cakes/biscuits and sandwich spreads.
These fats are hydrogenated vegetable oils - hydrogenation results in high levels of trans fatty acids and saturated fats which raise blood cholesterol levels (see module on Healthy Eating Tips: fats and cholesterol)

Prefer snack products which list specific vegetable oils in ingredient list (e.g. canola oil).
