HOW TO CHECK YOUR INTAKE OF A PARTICULAR NUTRIENT
STEP
1. Identify foods that are good sources of the nutrient from the
Food Charts
in this book.
2. Keep a record of how often you eat these foods over one week and how much of them you eat.
3. Calculate the total amount of that nutrient eaten in one week and divide by 7 for the average daily intake.
4. Compare your average daily intake with the recommended daily intake or the safe and adequate intake.
5. If your intake is way below what is recommended, find, from the charts, foods that are high in that nutrient and increase them in your diet.
