Breakfast Bowl

"This convenient
and appetising breakfast is packed with
nutrients to give you the vitality you need
for a good morning's activity and brain
function. Try this before you go to school
or work each day - and you will notice the
difference. Vary the fruit daily to your
own personal taste, and avoid boredom of
this breakfast." Gina Galea
Preparation time: 3 minutes
Serves: 1
Ingredients
½ banana - sliced
1 piece of seasonal fruit, cut into bite-size
pieces (Options: Fresh apricot, mango or
peach)
60 g reduced fat yoghurt
1 tablespoon wheatgerm
2 tablespoons reduced fat toasted/baked
muesli (some toasted mueslis can be high
in added fat)
Method
Place banana and fruit into bowl. Spoon
yoghurt over fruit.
Top with wheatgerm and muesli.
Serve with fruit juice.

Project yourself into
the day with the benefits of each ingredient
outlined below.
Banana - Excellent source of sustainable
energy and fibre. Good source of magnesium
for bone structure, muscle contraction and
nerve function (together with calcium, sodium
and potassium).
Apricot, mango & peach - Good
source of fibre and vitamin A - for healthy
retina function, skin and mucous membranes.
Contain disease-fighting antioxidants such
a flavonoids.
Yoghurt - Excellent source of calcium
for bone, muscle and nerves. Contains probiotic
acidophilus and bifidus which aids the balance
of normal intestinal bacteria.
Wheatgerm - An excellent source of
Vitamin E which acts as an antioxidant,
maintains healthy cell membranes and is
under study for prevention of cancer and
heart disorders.
Muesli - Excellent source of sustainable
energy and fibre.
Fruit Juice - Rich in Vitamin C (ascorbic
acid) for healthy gums, teeth and bones.
Assists absorption of non-haem iron from
vegetables and grains
TIP: Keep a tub of Greek
Style yoghurt in your fridge and use it
to make a delicious salad or seafood dressing.
